Setting Breakline Elevations from Surface

Setting a feature line or breakline for a  proposed surface from an existing surface is just about vital for tying into the existing surface without issues.  We all know it's not going to be perfect but as close as humanly possible given the data.

The guys here were trying to set these manually by adding points where they thought they needed them to make sure they tied in right but this still didn't line up the contours once they were done.

I had done this a decade earlier back when I was really in doing Civil3D but it had been a while.  Seeing that this was still an issue with people and it took a minute searching I figured I'd set up this blog and use some of the keywords I tried to search with.  One of which was drape.  I recalled someone saying to just drape the line over the surface.  Yeah it caused issues then too.  The drape command is for images apparently but the idea is sound. So instead of draping the line you Set Elevations from Surface.

The images I found were also not all that helpful.  Here's where to find the button in the ribbon up top.

It's under the Modify Ribbon and by the elevation commands.

Let me know if there are any other commands you are looking to find and want a simple answer to.  Will be posting more tips that really should have been easy but......
